Utah Archery Deer & Elk (August-September)

Until you've hunted in the Southern Utah August heat, you're never fully prepared for just how hot and long those days can be. Pauns, Pine Valley, and Zion Deer units probably come to mind for some of you. Especially if you are someone who isn't interested in walking back to camp to cool off mid-day. Some areas are tough to find the right amount of shade to even stay cool. Below you will find a gear list that could be beneficial for any unit with 90+ degree mid-day temps in the desert/low mountain range terrain. Through lots of trial and error, this type of equipment and apparel (or something similar to it) is what I can confidently say will make your hunting days much more comfortable. -Trever Thompson, Owner of PSC Outdoors Outfitting

Location: Southern Utah | Pursuit: Mule Deer/ Elk/ Desert Big Horn | Season: Early Archery

Southern Utah can provide a lot of glassing opportunities and having the proper equipment to pick apart those shaded bedding areas during the mid day.

For me, bino's that I can have quick access to and pan without needing a tripod is a personal preference. I rely more on a spotting scope to identify the details.

This pack has really changed the game for me. With a separate compartment for a water bladder for quick access, and a horseshoe front zipper, it's the ultimate convenient pack. I've carried from shed horns to Bison quarters on this pack and have done so comfortably.

Clothing

When it's 90+ degrees, it can be unbearable to have clothing that doesn't breath, wick and/or perform the way you need it to. I have tested several different clothing lines to find what works best for me.
