Archery Elk Montana
I'm midway through my 9th season guiding in Montana for elk, deer, and bear. I wanted to run over what I've found to work well for elk hunting in September. It is my favorite month of the year being able to see so much wild elk behavior and rut activity. Aside from shooting your bow consistently and being in top physical shape, gear is super important and can make a tough hunt doable.

I've used Vortex for years and have tried lots of other optics. The last two years I upgraded my optics to Leica 10x42 Noctivids, and a Leica 2800.com rangefinder. For someone like myself who does it for a living and spends 60+ days elk hunting a fall, I wanted the best there is. I went with Leica because it's a historically excellent brand with the best design, glass clarity, and durability .

Lots of times in a tent camp or lodge so we have full meals. I eat lots of red meat and whatever else is put in front of me. While out in the field, candy, nature valley, sandwichs, and cookies are common. I've recently become a big fan of hydration tablets or packets like liquid IV.

I prefer most anything in merino as far as neck gaiters, hats and beanies go. Gloves are tough as I'm often working or using my hands. I've tried many gloves, cheap Costco head running gloves are my favorite.

I've guided lots of folks with different set ups, all of the bows are great now. I personally am running a Matthews VXR and have been pleased with its accuracy and quietness. Also have became a huge fan of the quivilizer by option archery.
