Packs are in my opinion specific to you and your hunt. I prefer a lightweight frame such as Kuiu's in a 3600 which allows me to pack more than needed especially when guiding. After years of buying a new knife year after year. I have settled on the Iron Will K2 skinning knife. I have been able to skin a whole elk without having to sharpen the knife, it holds an edge and is lightweight.
I love the sound that the Phelps Metal Tube makes! For cow and calf calling the Primos Hootchie pack is easy and makes genuine sounds. Leukotape is a must for anyone in the backcountry! If a hotspot on your foot develops apply the leukotape and is like magic!
Depending if we are going to Spike out from the main camp, where we sleep in canvas wall tents. I will use my Nemo Kunai tent from FirstLite or if the weather is decent just use the RAB Equipment Bivy and Sil Tarp 2. At camp using a Diso-bed (bunk bed) is nice because you can sleep on one of the cots and use the other for gear storage.
I use MTN OPS for my vitamins, and energy supplementation needs. At night I will drink the Sleepy Chai Slumber and I will immediately fall asleep and wake up refreshed. I love that stuff! For my dehydrated foods, I prefer Heather's choice (single-serving meals) or Peak Refuel (2-serving meals) both taste great and you cannot go wrong with any of their meals.
I own and have used pretty much every piece of technical hunting clothing out there. Sitka, Kuiu, FirstLite, Beyond Clothing, and several others. Over the last several years I have found that the Sitka JetStream Jacket and Beanie are incredible wind stoppers. The Sitka Mountain Pant is like pajamas and holds up to incredible abuse. Crispi Boots are simply amazing and require a very little break-in period (but recommend them). The game changer for me the last several years is SheepFeet sole. I have not used anything gear-wise that has made such a drastic difference. The SheepFeet boot inserts have allowed me to go all day, in some of the country's steepest and unforgiving terrain! Simply AMAZING!
Socks are something I try new every year looking for that perfect pair. I have narrowed my search to Darn Tough. I tend to use a boot mid-weight sock with a thin wool liner from Smartwool. For keeping my head warm I have found that FirstLite wool products do the best job. I love the Kiln 250 beanie and the Tag cuff beanie that is pliable enough to go over your ball cap while hunting to keep the ears and neck warm.
I use a Browning A-bolt .300wsm
