I know there's a lot of debate out there in the hunting world about optics. And this is just my opinion about what I do. I run the Swaro EL's 12x50 and for a spotter the Swarovski BTX/85mm. They are in my opinion the best optic in clarity and durability. We glass a lot in AZ and this duo is hard to beat.
Not having a comfortable reliable hunting pack can make your hunt miserable. Lugging around 30-50lbs every day can wear on someone if their pack doesn't fit right, Sways to the sides too much, or uncomfortable Straps/hip belts/ load distribution and size. I use the Kifaru Dall. More than enough space. It straps down easily for day-pack use and is easily used for backcountry hunting. And last but not least, it can handle a Rear Elk quarter, no problem.
Some things in my pack I like to have just in case. Like preventing blisters or having to start a fire in middle of rain storm or heavy snow.
Base Camp purposes in the late season are crucial to having a good quality set up to sleep and rest up properly for the next day and so on. Kodiak Tents are well made, hold up in weather and stay fairly warm. Having a good and warm sleeping bag, and sleeping pad to help stay warm are huge.
Food is a big part of staying in the game and being warm at night. We cook a lot of fresh food in the camp. Anywhere from taco night to chicken or salmon Alfredo. Egg, bacon, and cheese burritos for breakfast and sandwiches for during the day while we're out.
Having the right clothing can also make or break a hunt. Walking around in wet clothing for 3-4 days and 30 degrees gets old real fast. The last thing you want is for something like that to ruin a hunt. I use a variety of brands depending on the pieces of clothing.
Personally, it's a must to keep my hands and feet warm! These items are crucial to me and I always have them with me.
I use a custom 28 Nosler with proof research barrel and stock. RimRock action and T3 muzzle break with a trigger tech trigger.
