Wyoming Mid-Late Rifle Season: Elk, Big Horn Sheep, Mule Deer, MNT Goat

In Wyoming, if you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes- that's our saying. The only constant weather pattern is wind. Having lived in Wyoming my entire life, I have grown up in the mountains here. I spent most of my youth toughing it out in Carhartt and swap meet brand x camo with Walmart packs. Through the years I have been my experiences and the onset of better gear has led me to a what works set up. I have the same pack set up for most of the year with the exception of dropping my spotter and tripod out for late-season cow elk. I guided off and on for about 18 years now (2022) and spend a few weeks professionally taking big horn sheep and mountain goat hunts every year and then spend the rest of the season hunting for myself or helping friends fill their tags in Wyoming's backcountry. The majority of my hunting is quick overnight or long day hunts on foot or week-long hunts with horsepower. Here is a list of the gear that I use and have abused. - Zachory Hart

Optics

Clarity and tested true, I have and use other brands as well. These are my go-to products. I love my badlands bump harness, but I find it too bulky.

Weight=comfort and having said that, I have found these companies to have found the weight zone with the comfort fit that works for me. 100+ pound pack-outs and 15+ mile days on foot.

Camping Gear

My camp equipment greatly varies if I am going on horse or on foot. Again, my foot hunts are a couple of days max or long day hunts.

Tents

I use off-brand tents because I have had too many of them break for my motto, "be frugal".

Clothing

Clothing cover

I am not brand-specific, I usually come down to what I have tried on to fit or what I find available in my smaller town to try on. Then have given away a small fortune in clothing that didn't perform how I wanted it to. If some of this seems out of budget, either buy a piece or two a year or opt for similar gear on sale. I also lean towards PrimaLoft vs down for the reason of tears and loss of loft when you get one.

I try to balance weight with accuracy. The Christensen was very temperamental to get set up. The Kimber set up is a pound lighter and has been lights out from the box.
