The New Mexico Gemsbuck is a free ranging species relocated in 1969 onto White Sands Missile Range in central New Mexico. The Gemsbuck or Oryx, as they are called in New Mexico, flourished in the desert terrain. Today many Oryx call New Mexico home, both on the White Sands Missile Range and on public and private land. The Oryx is one of the most sought after game animals in New Mexico as well as Africa. Few hunters realize that the Gemsbuck is classified as a big game animal in New Mexico. Anyone looking to add a very special trophy to their collection should consider hunting Oryx.
