I hunt a military installation. There's no terrible occurrences with theft but it has happened. I wanted insurance with my brand new camera purchase and bough this.
The fabrication of this box is solid. That's coming from a fabricator too. The fact that it is steel made my day. That being said, the box will be a barrier to prevent nosey people from swiping my SD card and looking at the photos or stealing the card itself. It will even prevent my batteries from being ripped off if someone found themselves that desperate for some AA's. What it won't prevent is someone swiping your whole camera right off the tree.
We are not allowed to screw anything into the trees here. Securing the box had to be with the nylon strap provided with the camera. Clearly it can be removed easily. To make it as secure as it needs to be for my use, I will have to weld it to the ladder on my treestand or other metal device or maybe a cable/chain somehow fixed to it so I can lock it on a tree.
With that, it is steel. It is tight tolerance assembly. It is noisy as hell to open for checking the SD Card. This contributes to the clumsiness of checking the card in the clumsy camera this box is designed for. The process is sure to destroy any effort of remaining silent en route to your stand.
It's not a bad purchase and I don't regret it. If you have a creative imagination for making it work for you, I encourage this purchase. If you think it will save your whole investment, think again. That thief will score if he swipes this thing.
