This will be a short and "to the point" Review as this is simply a cooler. But it "aint no average one" at that! The cooler has had numerous reviews and side by side comparisons done on youtube against some of the top players in the EXTREMELY LARGE and prolific cooler market we see today. This cooler was developed by OtterBox (yes, the same company making cell phone covers and accessories) Not to "match up" with Yeti, but to overtake them and set a new precedent.
The HITS AND MISSES
HITS: this is one rugged cooler. Its not light (even empty) and its not built to be handled with kid gloves either. Its bulletproof (well not literally and I don't recommend you trying it either)
Id have to say that my experience with it is the same as the testers on youtube claimed. It held ice on the rear of my truck (packet to the gills with beverages and other items) for a 10 day road trip to virginia in temps averaging 90 degrees. When i returned home, it still held approximately 30% of the ice from start of trip! So yes, I highly recommend it.
OtterBox also offers numerous accessories for this cooler that are quite thoughtful and put together well. Side tables, dry trays, ...etc.
its priced similar to yeti of same size however so you'll likely need to take a leap of faith but I promise you, you wont regret it.
THE MISSES:
Cost. Its not an entry level price tag
Handles: much has been said about the handles of these coolers. Most are in favor of the handles that are a continuous extension of the actual cooler unlike Yeti who uses the rope handles as carrier. I did not really like the handles on the OtterBox because they got in the way at times as i stacked 2 of these on the rear carry gate of my truck. However, when it came to unloading this behemoth fully loaded, I was glad it had these types of handles so each participant in this strongest man competition had their own side. The rope grips on Yeti tend to be very awkward and can pinch your hand off in the lifting process. Other coolers have a fold out handle, which, in the case of stacking side by side is a nice feature but this style makes me concerned of breakage since they pivot on a plastic swivel.
I got this cooler in white. Yes BORING I know but it makes clean up with bleach or a magic eraser very easy. It also keeps ice longer since it does not absorb the sunlight.
Very much recommended!!!
