My search for the ultimate setup for training and shooting club level prs and nrl matches began a few years ago.
I had my main rifle exactly how it needed to be but cost of ammo and burning through barrels made me look for another option.
Needed to balance barrel life, bc, speed, cost, and impact energy.
Settled on a 7 twist 223 Ackley Improved.
The only area i was hesitant was impact energy. Spotting impacts at further ranges is often an issue with some small 6mm and most .22 variants.
Results have been spectacular.
6k round barrel life, run 88s at 2910 ave fps. They have a better bc then the 6mm 108s and most 6mm br and bra send those at the 2800 ish range.
At the border war match last week the difference was solid. Shooting against 2 br and 1 6bra my dope was consistently better and even impact signature at the extended ranges really were appearant. Went 8-10 at 980 first stage id ever shot the rifle at besides load development. (Not by design, i prefer to be more prepared but finished the rifle 3 days before)
Such a solid performer i may start just using it at national matches.
I like a challenge, and am getting away from the heavy match rifle trend. It sits at 11 ish lbs and spotting impacts is a breeze. The only bullets i would like to try over these would be the 90 grain A-tips. That would be truly a combination to behold
