As an avid backpacker and trail runner, I'm always on the lookout for clothing that performs well in various outdoor situations I experience. I got this Dragonwool hoodie from Outdoor Vitals as a standalone hoodie for backpacking in 40-65 degrees F. I also got it as a mid- or base-layer for temps below 40F.
In my experience, this Dragonwool hoodie performs exactly as advertised and exactly as I expected. It is warm, but it breathes enough to prevent overheating. It's super comfortable and soft when wearing next to the skin. And I can nicely fit a t-shirt under it if I want a little more warmth. Or I can put it under my puffy coat to provide even more warmth. It's very versatile! It dries relatively quickly and doesn't stink after a few days.
This Dragonwool hoodie also fits as expected. I'm a somewhat slim 6'0, 190lbs, and the large fits perfectly. The arms are the right length. The thumbholes are well designed - I like them! The hood is also the right size for me and I can wear a baseball cap or beanie under it. The zipper is solid and the venting option of the zipper is a good one.
Negatives? I wish it had something reflective on it. It could also be a half-inch longer for tall guys, but that's a minor gripe. Finally, I wish there were other colors to select from, but again, that's minor.
Overall this OV Dragonwool hoodie is my #1 hoodie for backpacking, hiking, and being outdoors. It's comfortable, it performs well, and it looks nice! I might just get one more.
