I purchased this pack to take on a back country hunting trip planned for this fall. I had read several other reviews on the Metcalf and after finally getting to see one in person at a vendor tent at TAC I decided to go ahead and make the purchase. I didn't realize just how much room it had until I started putting my gear list together and trying to figure out the best way to pack everything. I have started doing some conditioning walks/hikes carrying my pack and have realized I probably don't need to try to pack it full just because I can. With enough food for 4 days my pack is coming in right at 50#s which feels more like 500#s by the end of a 6 mile hike.
The pack is built with quality fit and finish. The height of the shoulder straps is easy to adjust, even with the pack loaded down. There are plenty of pockets to organize everything, but you may want to write down where you put what so you don't end up dumping your whole pack looking for a lighter to start a fire with (yeah, I had to have looked right at it two or three times, but didn't find it until I had nearly pulled everything out). This pack is very well thought out and designed and like I said earlier the only "complaint" I might have about it is that there is too much room… I'm hoping to be able to write a follow up review later this fall with some pictures of a full pack out and how it (I) was able to handle everything.
