Excellent Chronograph

Received my Athlon Rangemaster this past week. On opening the box, I found the chronograph ships with a nice padded case providing a solid fit and excellent protection of the device. Also the tripod shipped with the chronograph is heavier than I expected and should provide adequate support of the chronograph in windy conditions. The chronograph is well made and the outer casing seems tough. The button controls are intuitive and easy to use. Set up was very easy after a brief review of the users manual to understand the operations of the buttons. On setting it up to take measurements for the first time, I liked the size of the screen and the screen clarity is very good. In making the session settings, a number of options are available: rifle, pistol, archery and other. I've only had time to take measurements of a .22 rimfire pistol and .22 rimfire rifle. First time use was very easy, scrolling through the menu to make necessary settings, ie. velocity range, projectile weight and set the device to the recommended 4" to 10" from the muzzle. The chronograph recorded every shot and I am particularly impressed with how quickly the device recorded and displayed the data. Data captured was comprehensive providing average velocity, min and max velocities, standard deviation, extreme spread, kinetic energy and power factor data points. As an aside, bullet weight can be adjusted during setting up the session or post session in the summary as well. Post session bullet weight adjustments will change the kinetic energy and power factor. I did download the Athlon Ballistics app to my phone and the chronograph was easily linked to the phone via Bluetooth. I'm still learning to use the app but it has a lot of features that will make it useful for ballistics. Overall, I think Athlon has developed an excellent product, particularly at the price point and I am very impressed with it thus far.
