Over the last couple of years, I have taken on the adventure of backcountry elk hunting. Initially, my focus was on packing in the lightest gear possible in order to conserve weight. After a couple trips to Colorado in early/mid September I realized that light doesn't always mean comfort and a good night's sleep is critical to a productive hunt. Recently, I upgraded my sleep system with the insulated Klymit Static V pad... and what a difference. This pad checks all the boxes being durable, quiet, warm, and light enough to not impact my pack weight. I would highly encourage any new adventurer to consider a quality sleep system before adventuring into the backcountry this year.
