I recently purchased a Ravin R29 crossbow. I reviewed lots of crossbows, visited with friends that had different brands, and decided on the Ravin R29. When it came in it, I was impressed with the quality of construction. I could not wait to shoot it but made myself slow down and set it up according to the owner's manual. It is basically assembled but you have to mount and set the scope. I followed the instructions exactly as printed. For the first shot I used my Rinehart archery target. This 430 fps crossbow buried the 20 inch arrow so deep it took all day to get it out. I purchased a Black Hole Crossbow 16 target but the first shot buried the arrow to the nock. To work things out I have to use the Rinehart behind the Black Hole. Not the best set up, but it allowed me to go through the set-up steps. After setting the scope, I was impressed. I could literally and consistently hit a target (about the size of a baseball) from 50 yards. This thing is a blast to shoot. The scope has reticle marks from 20 to 100 yards in increments of 10. I can't wait to shoot past 50 (was just unable to do so at that current location). I bought this crossbow to hunt whitetails. Where I hunt, I commonly see deer at 40 to 80 yards, and more often than not I cannot shoot because they are beyond the distance I would shoot with my vertical bow. Not that I plan to go out trying to shoot deer at long distances, but I am confident this crossbow will extend my range. It's built like I would build a crossbow. I'm very satisfied and looking forward to hunt this fall. The only negative I have observed; it's much louder than any vertical bow (even with the Ravin limb dampeners), but its also so fast and accurate, I just don't think that will negatively impact my ability to quickly and effectively harvest a deer. I believe by the time they hear it it will be blowing through the vitals for a clean kill. Thanks Ravin for building a quality product
