I purchased this spotting scope for my sheep hunt this fall after hours of research and consideration. My top two choices came down to this scope and its top competitor the Swarovski ATX 85mm. I chose this scope for a few reasons that made it outshine the Swarovski. The dual focus was a major factor, I like having the quick and fine focus separate to get a nice clear image either for my eye or phone's camera lens. It beats the Swarovski on weight, which is always a consideration. Lastly I preferred the construction of this scope and its use of the Prominar fluorite crystal to give it a super sharp image and edge to edge clarity. I used this scope extensively over my 11 days sheep hunt to look at multiple animals from 150 yards to miles away, and ultimately was able to use it to determine a legal ram from a mile away. I used it in conjunction with my Phone Skope attachment to take amazing photos and videos of all the animals I saw, and the clarity looks like a professional photographer with an expensive camera. I used it multiple evenings to watch animals well after sunset and up to and even just past last light, as well as before first light. The amount of light the 88mm collects is astounding.
Pros: Clear view. Beautiful edge to edge clarity. 4 position eye relief, the 3rd position worked best with the Phone Skope, the 4th position for my eyeball. Dual focus knobs. Body is able to rotate, I used this much more than I expected when peering over a rise and not wanting the sheep to notice me. Lighter for its size.
Cons: Honestly can't think of a single con after my 11 days of hunt use, and couple days of range use.
If you are looking for an absolute top of the line spotting scope that will truly perform this is the right choice. Save the money instead of paying for a name like Swarovski and go with the tried and true Kowa.
