On the first day wearing the Catalyst Foundry Pant from First Lite, I shot a large mule deer. In order to get the deer out, I made a sort of backpack of the deer and carried it out on my back. The second or third time I stood up with the deer on my back, the seam for the side zipper ripped and continued to rip gradually until the entire pant was worthless. There was a lot of stress on the zipper at the time (and on my body) but these are high-dollar hunting pants being used for hunting, and these are expected rigors that someone faces on a backcountry hunt. Otherwise the pants worked well. In a hunt where the temperature never got above freezing I was easily able to switch from glassing to hiking, to packing a deer out without having to constantly shed or add layers. The heat dumps worked well, and the knee pads were surprisingly convenient. Other than the obvious, these pants truly were a game changer. I'm hoping that the zipper was a one-off defect, because other than the complete failure of the zipper, I would love to continue exploring the backcountry in these pants.
