I sat on the fence considering many outerwear products to handle my mid to late season needs. Ultimately I chose to go with the First Lite Solitude jacket and bibs. I would be retiring some old, bulky, and truly ineffective product that just no longer fit the bill. One of the issues I face as a Bow Hunter and Rifle Hunter is broad temperature ranges that could be mid 40's in my home state of Kentucky to single digits on my annual trip to Wisconsin. With much mental debate I chose the Solitude thinking I would layer up for or when I would be hunting in colder temps. When the box arrived I was excited but, to be honest, a little disappointed in the weight of the set. It just didn't seem this product could shield off the colder temps but it was truly nice product and if I needed to order extreme cold weather clothes, so be it. I had read a variety of reviews and concluded that I would put some trust into the product. The hand of the fabric was subtle, the stitch work superb, and the thoughtful nature of the design was hunting inspired, all had me pretty stoked to get out in the woods. The next morning found me heading to a favorite stand along a creek bed at the bottom of a steep little valley. Storms had rendered my old way down inaccessible so I picked my way through briars and brambles, thick brush, and sapling trees. By the time I got to my stand, a full hour and a half before sunrise, I had worked up a sweat, in spite of the temps being in the mid teens. As I got settled in for the morning I noticed something unusual happening. The steamy hot air trapped in my Solitude bibs and jacket was being drawn away in a manner I could literally feel. What a sensation the effects of the 37.5 technology had on me but would it continue right into freezing me out before the sun even came out? The short answer is no, the movement of hot moist air slowed, I dried, and I settled into a 6 hour sit just as comfortable as could be. As the morning went along a stiff northwest wind started rolling down the valley, this would have been a curtain call for my old set up, but it didn't phase the First Lite Solitude set. I have since used this product in temps as high as 55 with just light layering underneath and several more times in sub freezing. Overall, it is apparent this product is designed by those who use it. The little touches like lashing points for your range finder to baffles in the pockets so you can push the temp without gloves, all bring together a winning set up. No doubt I will purchase more First Lite product, I now understand the hype for their product and find recommendation quite easy!
