I purchased the ALPS upland vest to do day hunts for chukar, in the remote backcountry of Idaho, Oregon, and Nevada. After using other vests for several years, I was never satisfied with the amount of gear I could carry with me on a day hunt. In an average day quail or pheasant hunting near home, a person is fine with some shells for an afternoon hunt. But when you need to carry equipment for the entire day, plus basic emergency equipment most game vest come up far short. This vest however meets the needs of the western chukar hunter. I can carry a large bladder, a rain coat lunch, and basic survival equipment without trouble. With that said, it could even use more storage. I have added storage for quick access to things like a wallet and lighter on the front. I love the vest though, it truly has changed the way I hunt, it has allowed me to go further, and be confident about myself and my dogs ability to cover miles and miles of ground in the backcountry without needing to return to the truck for lunch, or water. Love it.
