It's difficult to explain every advantage that the onX Elite brings to the hunter and/or guide on an internet review. Everyone knows the benefit of quick, reliable, fingertip access to public/private boundaries within a given management unit. What might not be so obvious are the other advantages. Without getting too detailed, I'll list a few that I employ.
The hybrid view (satellite w/ topo) gives one the ability to view terrain/topography that might not be visible from your current position, especially when glassing. Knowing what's ahead of you can provide an advantage when planning a stalk, or in understanding the layout, funnels, and accessibility of a newly-discovered bedding or feeding area, or finding food and water sources while scouting.
Another tool I consistently enjoy is the tracker function. This can not only provide a detailed log of areas you've scouted/hunted, but can also be used to help plan subsequent excursions more efficiently. One thing I am guilty of doing is forgetting to turn the tracking function off when returning to the truck. You end up recording your normal route, plus the trip back to camp. The Elite version allows you to customize your track, and to erase any unwanted legs.
I will mark all my favorite spots: glassing, water holes, rubs, wallows, game trails, species, etc, and the app usually has an icon to match. (no oryx, ibex or other exotics tho) You can edit all of your tracks and marks with different colors, thicknesses etc to indicate level of importance, and you can even take photos that will attach to your mark.
We all have cell phones these days, so the onX tool won't require any additional equipment in your pack. Most of my guiding occurs in SW NM where there is zero cell signal. This doesn't matter, because once you've downloaded your hunt areas, you have immediate access to GPS functionality regardless of cell reception. You'll know exactly where you are, and more importantly where you're going.
