I purchased the Pyre set for an elk hunt in Montana this fall. When I opened the box, I was impressed by the quality of this clothing.
I have read some reviews stating it is not quiet enough. I dont know if Badlands changed the outer material since those reviews, but I can say that to me, this material is relatively soft and quiet when you move about.
I purchased the Pyre gator and beanie, and they do in fact have a different outer material that may be a bit more noisy. They are definitely warm and regardless of material, I am happy to have the entire set.
We are having a freak snow storm in Maryland today so I figured it was a good time to try the set out. The Temps are around 30 and there are wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph.
I wore the bibs with fleece lined blue jeans and just a t shirt under the jacket. Paired this with the Rocky Bearclaw boots I also purchased from Guidefitter.
I did some moderate to light shoveling outside and can report that the wind had no effect on me. My legs were getting hot by the time I was finished, and my upper body was the perfect temperature with just a t shirt on. Feet were getting hot as well with standard socks. Beanie and hood kept head at perfect temperature. Only thing that got cold were finger tips and I was not wearing my Badlands gloves, so I should have used those as well.
I know this set is pricey, but with the Guidefitter discount I saved almost $400 on the Jacket, bibs, gator, and beanie. The great thing about it is I cannot only use it out west for spot and stalk, I can use it here in the east for treestand hunting. Well worth the investment.
