Army veteran with titanium plates pins and screws in my knees, most boots only cause me pain and force me to leave the hunt early. I took a chance on the Smilodon and I can say with 100% honesty that I had zero knee pain from walking through Idaho's rough High Mountain terrain. The boots were broken in by wearing them around the house for 2 weeks, just a couple of hours a day. When hunting season started, there were no hot spots, no pinch points, no pain at all. I logged about 7-10 miles a day with 2k-3k feet elevation gain, all on foot. I would always take extra socks but never needed to change them, the boots performed great. I can remember stopping 2-3 times in the first few days to re-lace them but never needed to do it on the following days. They saw mud, snow, creek crossings, rutted trails, sharp rocks and loads of gravel, they never failed to impress me. The width is perfect for my wide feet, and the insulation worked great. I only wore a mid-weight cushion hiking sock with them and my toes were toasty warm even when the temps were in the low teens. My only complaint, the toe has a nice reinforced rubber coating, I wish the heels had that as well. Some of the terrain is so steep that when i sat a hillside I would need to agressively dig my heels in to make flat spots so I wouldn't go sliding to my demise. After the hunt I noticed some cuts/slicing in the nubuck leather around the heel. The rubber would reinforce this area and help prevent this from happening.
