Opening day of grouse season in Colorado during a pandemic took me up into the high country in search of dusky grouse aka Blues by myself. In an ancient clear-cut with stumps burnt years ago by a lightning strike I found a pair of the mountain birds strutting through tall grass. Pinned down between me and a Colorado blue spruce the first bird burst into the air when I closed the distance. Quick to my shoulder the Weatherby piled up the big bird. Catching movement beside the tall pine I swung the O/U back to the right dropping the second bird. My first two shots taken at game birds and I doubled on Blues.
Balanced perfectly between your hands the 26" barrels maneuver through thick cover with nimble agility. Packed with premium game loads the Weatherby Orion drops birds with innate ability. A true to form upland tool the Orion has quickly become an asset in the field.
Late in the Colorado winter and waterfowl is at the top of the hunting list. Ice, snow and freezing temperatures can ruin the performance of many premium shotguns. The Weatherby Orion performs flawlessly in the harsh hunting conditions. Single digit temperatures and frigid slush ice combine to make inferior shotguns inoperable. Not a Weatherby.
I highly recommend the Weatherby Orion for any of your chosen wingshooting pursuits. Friendly, agile and accurate in the Uplands. Reliable, durable and dependable chasing waterfowl in the harshest conditions a high country Colorado winter delivers.
