Mid layer or outer

I got this thinking it might work better as a mid layer but I found that with a merino base layer it will work as an outer layer in active hunting activities, and I sometimes put it in the pack and use it during extended glassing sessions or slow stalks to add some warmth. I like the versatility, I wish the zipper pocket was just a inch or two lower on the chest. The hoodie gives a lot of options and it is pretty lightweight while adding considerable warmth to a base layer.
