This is my first muzzleloader and so far I've been really impressed. I got this for weapons-restricted moose hunts here in Alaska, and the shorter barrel will be nice when navigating alder thickets and brush. I've been shooting powerbelts with Blackhorn 209 powder and the accuracy has been dead-on and really consistent shot-to-shot. Based on the consistent accuracy I've seen at 100 yards, this gun definitely has the ability to reach out to 200-300+ yards, if you need to take longer range pokes. The nitride coating inside the barrel really cuts residue and makes swabbing/cleaning the barrel really easy and reduces the worry about corrosion. You will need to purchase a separate range rod though, since the collapsible one that comes with the gun is for loading only and you'll want to minimize the wear and tear on it. I honestly can't come up with any negatives about this gun so far: it feels and shoots great, it disassembles and cleans up super easily, and was designed to handle magnum powder loads and heavy projectiles for hunting big game like moose and bear. It will be put to the test this year during my ML moose hunt where dense vegetation, deep snow, and subzero temps are all on the table, but I'm confident everything will hold up.
Muzzleloader hunts in Alaska prohibit magnified scopes, so I added a Vortex Spitfire AR red dot and I really like this combo. The reticle is etched directly into the glass so if the battery dies, you still have a good sight picture. Plus I really like the double circle and dot style reticle. It really allows fast target acquisition without sacrificing precision.
