First trip out was unexpectedly cold. I normally use a three piece sleep system, but this time I decided to save a little space in my pack and left out my thin fleece mummy liner. With just the sleeping bag and the goretex outer bag cover I was amazingly warm. Temps just below freezing.
When I bought this bag I wasn't impressed with the design of the uninsulated bottom. But I got a Klymit Static V insulated sleeping pad and the insulated pad cover for it. All that fit in the integrated pocket on the bottom of the sleeping bag. And all that fit in the goretex outer layer.
Also one of the reasons I got this bag was it looked a bit more roomy in the foot box and hip area. It is, and was nice to have the little extra room. Particularly since the integrated pad helped keep everything in place while I'm tossing and turning.
Clearly it all worked very well, although not a speedy set up. We have to choose our battles to find a balance between speed/ease and comfort by taking the right combo of equipment for each trip.
I would recommend this bag for it's performance but give 4 stars instead of 5 because of the uninsulated bottom.
