We bought this camera in hopes of filming many of our hunts in South Africa this year, however…. Maybe some of it has to do with our being newer to its operations…. But we didn't get much that was usable from 8 different hunts.
We also purchased the rifle barrel mount for the camera, but when taking it off and back onto the rifle, we had to keep an Allen key handy to do so… kind of a pain since it was a rented rifle and wasn't with us in camp… so to recharge, we had to remove the camera daily.
During the hunts, it was kind of hard to hit the button off and on due to being on and off an animal many times and just letting it run filled up the memory within a handful of minutes.
Most of our hunts were 100yds and when zooming in, the shot can be seen but not in detail along with the recoil throwing off the aim of the camera as well.
I also tried doing the remote control viewing through my phone app which did allow me to turn it on and off better without having to handle the rifle to hit the button manually…. However the Wi-Fi operations on it was prone to turning off and disconnecting. Not sure why they went with Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth… but it didn't work all that well.
Even our Safari outfitter was impressed with the concept but both of us were left kinda unimpressed in the implementation.
As stated before, maybe it's due to our being new to its usage and we will figure it out, but we will try again during deer season to hopefully get some usable videos. We would be more than happy to work with Tactacam on updates and field usage.
