First time fly fishing. Catching spring salmon, trout and stripped bass at the Upper Oxbow. Very best.

It was my first time fly fishing and Bobby had me catching fish right away. I fish a few times a year, using a technique which Bobby jokingly referes to as 'throwing junk', but I found fly fishing to be a more wholesome way of catching fish. It was early spring, so the salmons were black and relatively small when compared to the silver trophies people go for in the summer. The upside of the early season is that I caught a lot of them: about 10 in my 3 days fishing there.
On a sunny and hot afternoon, we decided to go down the river to catch some striped bass. There are so many of them that it looks like a swarm is under water at times. It was nice to have the possibility to switch it up for a bit.
Dale and Debbie are laid back hosts, they know their business through and through. Everybody else there was a seasoned 'sport', but I still felt welcomed. It felt homely and upscale to be there, which is a feat considering you still feel like you're in the bush. It was a great place to relax after a day of fishing, their cooks are top notch. It's an experience.
One thing I was really impressed with is the way they all care so much about the fish. From being involved in preserving the specie at the provincial level, to the way they count the seconds the fish will be out of the water to get a quick picture of it before its release, they ooze with passion for the salmo salar.
All in all, I made great memories there and I can't wait to go back to the mighty Miramichi.
