1st Bull! It only took 5 years of hard hunting to get it done. Flew back to CONUS for some TAD and tacked on a week extra to chase some Wapiti with my hunting buddy in CO. I literally landed in Denver Intl around 9am and made our way out to Kremmling just in time to get in the first evening's hunt and sealed the deal after with a 55yd shot snaked between heavy tree cover with no kidding 5 min of shooting light left. What preceded that shot was of course a few frustrated bugles at sunset when I was getting hopeless with my plan to "Stay quiet and patient because I always call too much!" Well...in this case it was just enough.
My buddy and his dad were both lucky enough to draw LaPanza tule elk bull tags last year and I was also lucky to be able to go on the hunt with them. On opening day we found this awesome bull. We had seen pictures of this bull before and knew he was a good one. Before the rut he was a 8x8 but came out of the rut with two broken tines on each side. He still very impressive scoring in at 270 with all the broken tines. He was by far the most dominant bull. Anyway we found this guy in the morning but we're able to get a shot at him. We followed him and the heard for most of the day until we came over a little ridge and found him bedded. We waited until he stood up and anchored him to the ground at 180 yards. Truly one one of the most exciting hunts that I've been on and I wasn't even the shooter.
