The season runs from the third week in October through late December. Grouse hunting season runs from mid-September to late December. It's not an easy bird to bag but from Thanksgiving on, success improves. Beginning in 1995, because of a demand for milder weather hunts and coordinating with other hunts throughout North America, an early season preserve hunt is offered September first thru opening weekend. Grouse season runs concurrently with pheasant season and has a 3 bird/day limit.

Our guests are allowed to shoot four birds per day, including one partridge, with the option of shooting additional birds. Pheasant hunting during the September season occurs on the private preserve area of the ranch.

Guests that do draw tags often experience a once-in-a-lifetime waterfowl experience especially on guided hunts. It is not uncommon for our guests to shoot limits of ducks including: Mallards, pintails, canvasbacks, redheads, wood ducks, and giant Canada geese. Guests can expect to draw tags at least every other year when applying every year. Self-guided waterfowl hunting at Double P Ranch: We provide decoys, duck boats, and layout blinds for our guests to use. The Double P guides will assist the groups to spots in and around the lodge. Our guides are NOT able to help with guests hunting on any public areas. Guided Waterfowl hunts: Most of our guests hire a waterfowl guide for a day or two. The luxury of a guided hunt is the guide scouts extensively prior to each day's hunt. The rate for guided hunts averages around $150/day/guest based on a party of four.
